Every field is optional and every one distinguishes ABSENT from CLEARED: omitting path leaves the node's link alone, sending null turns it into a group header.

The node's position is not editable here — that is what the reorder route is for, because moving one node renumbers its siblings.

Gamba operators only. menu_items carries no casino: one tree is the console's navigation for the whole install, so editing it is a platform act rather than something a casino does to its own console. Guarding it with a per-casino permission let one casino's operators rewrite the chrome every other casino's operators see and trust.
